ROBLOX History

Roblox is a user-generated online gaming platform and game creation system developed by Roblox Corporation, enabling users to design, share, and play interactive 3D experiences using tools like Roblox Studio and the Luau programming language. Founded in 2004 by David Baszucki and Erik Cassel, Roblox was publicly launched in 2006. The San Mateo, California-based company has developed into a major digital economy, where developers have collectively earned billions through its virtual currency, Robux. Robux primarily replaced the earlier Tickets (Tix) currency that users could earn for free through platform activities, with Tix discontinued on April 14, 2016; this currency supports in-game purchases and premium features. As of the fourth quarter of 2025, Roblox reports 144 million daily active users, predominantly youth, alongside 3.1 million developers whose content generates billions of hours of engagement annually.
